PARISH TRIP TO ROME & ASSISI

You would have thought we had planned it to be in Rome on an historic day in the life of the church – the first day when a pope the day before we arrive, abdicates for the first time in 600 years!

While we are saddened we won’t get to see the Holy Father, our group goes to Rome on Friday bringing our prayers and best wishes to the Holy Father at this time, and pray the Holy Spirit will guide the College of Cardinals whose duty it is to select the new Bishop of Rome.

Part of our trip will include a visit to the Irish Pontifical College, where many men are currently training for the priesthood among the dioceses of Ireland. To mark the occasion, we will be bringing a piece of specially commissioned Waterford Crystal, which has the Year of Faith logo inscribed on it. This is on view in the church this weekend, and will be presented to the college on Sunday next, in Rome. We continue to pray for those who are training for odained ministry, and pray that more will respond to the call of God in a vocational capacity for the future.

As we take our prayers to Rome and Assisi, pray for us undertaking this pilgrimage on behalf of all our parishioners here. St Francis of Assisi – pray for us.
