Newsletter 18th May 2025

The glory of God in St John’s gospel is another word for his love.
We have types of love, and for most of us we find it in our lasting friendships, our spouses, our partners, our family – those without whom life would be so much the poorer.
Real love transforms. Opens the heart more and more. We get out of ourselves in real love – caring, forgiving, getting over things. In all sincere and outgoing love between any two people, God is present. Love brings God alive in us. Not the love that is in name only and uses each other. But love that sees the other as more important than myself.
We say, ‘love made him’.
Parents say – I hope they find friends who will bring the best out of each other’.
Mauriac writes- “To love someone is to see a miracle invisible to others.”
The example of Jesus can help us at times when it can be hard to see goodness even in those we love.
Real love heals. Only love makes the best out of the worst. In concentration camps the survivors were often those who had love to remember or go back to. Even when things go very badly in life, the forgiveness of love can help us move forward.
Lord, help me to be truly grateful for love in my life.

Mass to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Ordination of the Late Fr. Colm O’Brien

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Ordination to the Priesthood of a remarkable, humble, prayerful and genuine priest, who sadly died at the young age of 36 in 2009 after serving as curate in both SS Peter & Paul’s Clonmel and Holy Cross Tramore.
Fr. Colm O’Brien was ordained to the priesthood on 4th June 2000 by Bishop William Lee in his home parish of St Paul’s in Waterford.
A way of celebrating and thanking God for Fr. Colm’s life and priesthood, Bishop Cullinan will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving for the Priesthood of Fr. Colm, on what would have been his 25th Anniversary, on Tuesday 3rd June at 7.30pm in St Pauls Church, Waterford. Everyone is most welcome to come to the Mass and give thanks to God for the impact Fr. Colm made in those years, and to pray for the happy repose of his soul.

Jubilee Prayer

Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your kingdom.

May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel. May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth, when, with the powers of Evil vanquished, your glory will shine eternally.

May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope, a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever. Amen

Ciorcal Cómhrá Returns – Fáilte Mór Roimh Chách!

We are delighted to welcome everyone back to the Ciorcal Cómhrá at Tramore Library. Following the Easter break, our weekly Irish conversation group will be meeting again on Thursdays at 7pm and we can’t wait to get chatting again.
Our sessions are all about enjoying the language together, having a laugh, and keeping the cúpla focal alive in a supportive setting. It’s a lovely way to spend an hour through sharing stories, trying out a few sentences and connecting with others over a mutual love of Gaeilge.
Come along as we pick up where we left off. We’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones too. Bígí linn!
