Holy Cross Church Christmas tree of Remembrance
This year we are decorating our Christmas tree in the church with silver Christmas decoration cards.
If you would like a loved one remembered, the name will be added to the card and it will placed on the tree in their memory.
Please drop in to the Parish office and we will be happy to assist you.
Donation for each remembrance card, in aid of Church Restoration Fund.
Our Cemeteries
As Christmas approaches it is wonderful to see all the preparation happening-with decorations in Our Homes, Our Churches and with flowers and Christmas wreaths in Our Cemeteries.
When Christmas is passed we respectfully ask you to remove the Christmas wreaths and withered flowers from your family graves and please take them home.
Please do not dispose of them on the Church Grounds.
We thank you for your help in keeping our cemeteries neat and tidy.
Christmas Prayer
“O sweet Child of Bethlehem,
grant that we may share with all our hearts
in this profound mystery of Christmas.
Put into the hearts of men and women this peace
for which they sometimes seek so desperately
and which you alone can give to them.
Help them to know one another better,
and to live as brothers and sisters,
children of the same Father.
Reveal to them also your beauty, holiness and purity.
Awaken in their hearts
love and gratitude for your infinite goodness.
Join them all together in your love.
And give us your heavenly peace. Amen.”

Reflection for 3rd Sunday of Advent
The Joy of Waiting
Advent is a time of joy – joy in the waiting and this Sunday we wear the joyful rose-coloured vestment. The messenger in the first reading is the ‘joyful messenger’, and his joy is that God is near and God is coming. This would be the message of Jesus –that he was the joyful messenger of his Father’s love. He would be the shepherd – the one who cares, knows and actively looks after the sheep. John the Baptist is the voice of joy and energy, preaching the new message.
Voices of Advent to bring God near – The central message within all the voices of Christmas.
God’s Christmas voice is saying I love you, you are all brothers and sisters, and nothing except love is final.
Not just a voice…but actively loving in word and deed. One way of touching that love is the Mass. Jesus is not really love from the sky, but food of the Eucharist, that nourishes us and makes a difference. We bring our ordinary concerns to Mass, and let God lighten them and transform them, and enlighten us with his word. The voice of God makes sense of and brings light into the ordinariness of life.
God is present in his word, and in his body – we wait in joy for the Word to be made flesh.
Remember this week what makes you joyful about the coming
feast of Christmas and be grateful.
Lord I believe your word was made flesh and appeared among us.
Donal Neary SJ
