26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Grumpy Brother and the Honest One
Two brothers: the second was grumpy, honest and generous; the first was kindly, confused and selfish. We know often people who do what they say, who do something in the end, or who don’t do what they say. The first man knew his mind and then did what was right. Is it the message of this humorous and honest story that sincerity and integrity are important? A certain spirituality ignores ourselves – it’s all about doing. Grit your teeth and get down to it. Roll up your sleeves and work… ‘but nobody asked us how we were’. But we find God both in the discernment and in the doing. In the end we must know how we feel about some¬thing and then put that in the hands of God and in prayer and do what seems right. The Lord wants the follow through! We need to take time to decide well – the first son did not do that. Then we need to follow and do what is right.
We need sound heads, compassionate hearts and willing hands. The vineyard is where we live all the time. The call is to live in truth, love and justice. We need to believe in the possi¬bilities of a better world, and to become people who can decide on what is right in the sight of God and do it. We will often re¬sist. We want to do what is right and do the opposite. He under¬stands our mixed motivation. In all of that we need the Christian vision and a desire to do the world a world of good.
Recall a time you felt resentful about doing what you ought to do.
How did you feel after doing it?
Lord, may everything I do begin with you
and be happily ended in love. Amen.

CHURCH CLEANING
If you can spare 30 minutes on the 1st Wednesday of the month after 10am Mass to help with the Church monthly cleaning it would be very much appreciated.

Tramore’s Ciorcal Cómhra is back!
After a well-earned summer break, the Ciorcal Cómhra in Tramore Library is getting ready to spring back into action on Thursday, 1st October at 7pm and we are looking forward to hearing plenty of Gaeilge again. The Ciorcal is a relaxed and sociable gathering for anyone who enjoys speaking Irish whether you have a cúpla focal or have not spoken the language in years or are already happily chatting away as Gaeilge. There is no formal teaching, no tests and no pressure whatsoever. Instead our group can offer you an opportunity to meet up, participate in a chat and enjoy hearing Irish spoken in good company. Over the past years, the Ciorcal has welcomed a lovely mix of people, with plenty of stories and laughter and good humour to share. It’s a great place to rediscover words you thought you had forgotten, pick up new expressions and build confidence by joining in. If you’ve been thinking about giving your Irish a new lease of life, October is the perfect time to start. Come along, pull up a chair and see what the Ciorcal is all about. New faces are always very welcome and you certainly don’t need to be fluent to take part. Bígí linn!
AKARAPET SCHOOL PROJECT-EAST KENYA
Following the generous support of Tramore parishioners for the Bee Project, Fr Tom Hogan is coordinating a new project this September for Akarapet School, where two classrooms are under construction.
The school currently has 34 pupils, with another 34 due to start in January. The aim is to raise €3,000 to provide 23 locally made desks, permanent water storage, water for the building work, and help complete and equip the classrooms.
For anyone who would like to support the project, a contribution of €20 is suggested, with all contributions gratefully received.

If you have been bereaved and need a chat with those who have also experienced grief, this group is for you. All the details are outlined below.
The group will meet at 7pm on the dates below at St. John’s Pastoral Centre, John’s Hill, Waterford X91HW9D.

Compassionate Connections is a grief support group offering a warm and understanding space for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group provides an opportunity to meet others who understand grief, share experiences if you wish, or simply come along and listen — there is never any pressure to speak.
