REFLECTION:
Reflection for Corpus Christi
Gift for all Time
The main feast of the Eucharist is Holy Thursday. The Corpus Christ feast was originated partly to stress the joy of the Eucharist which might be somewhat lost in the more sombre Holy week. While Holy Thursday also includes the washing of the feet, this feast is simply to commemorate the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist.
The body and blood of Jesus is the life of the Lord, ‘given to us’. This gift is for all times. At scenes where Jesus feeds the people in the gospel, much is always left over. This is a sign of wanting to give his love for the life of the world for all time. This live, to death and resurrection, is commemorated in a real way at every Mass.
When a priest or minister gives communion, we are aware of the special moment this is for so many people. It is a moment of asking for help in life, for peace of mind, for the presence of the Lord. At a time of illness or bereavement we may recall the lift of grace when communion was brought to us. On our side it is our promise also to share the Lord in different ways of love in our own lives.
Remember a time when receiving Communion
bright you peace, joy or comfort.
It is right and just O Lord to give you thanks
for the gift of yourself in the Eucharist.
Donal Neary SJ

LIGHT OF HOPE DIOCESAN MISSION 2024
We are delighted to announce plans for our Diocesan Mission this June!
A group of 23 Canadian Missionaries from Catholic Christian Outreach™ (CCO™) will arrive in the diocese on 11th June following a week-long Parish Mission in the Diocese of Raphoe. They will help to facilitate a mission here in the diocese from 12th – 16th June.
Their mission, which is aimed at all age groups, will include activities such as meeting & greeting parishioners after morning Masses, Lightfever, Street Outreach, Encounter event for Young Adults, Music, Prayer and Testimony.
They will also facilitate three training sessions for all who are involved throughout the diocese in any area of ministry in our parishes and who would like to grow in confidence in their faith and in their ability to intentionally share with others, and create an invitational culture in our parishes. We would hope to see those who are involved, for example, in any aspect of Parish Liturgy, in Parish Pastoral Councils or Leadership Teams, Alpha Teams, Parish Faith Reps, Legion of Mary, and so on, attend a training event as a way of growing in our confidence and skills in knowing and sharing our faith.
The highlight of the mission will be a special diocesan afternoon of celebration at Mount Melleray on Sunday 16th June, with prayer at the Abbey, Pilgrim Walks, time for personal prayer and reflection, as well as fellowship and chat.
A full schedule will follow shortly on www.waterfordlismore.ie/mission2024
