NEWSLETTER 4th OCTOBER 2026
27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Vineyard is Ourselves!
God is all the time caring for his people and thinking of us, mak¬ing sure we’re not endangered when he can help it. His care for his people goes into the heart of the Trinity, one of whom be-comes one of us, for our sake.
He wants us to bear fruit, as in the second reading. He will give these fruits – and wants us to value them.
In our society today, we could say that in many countries child protection and care is better today. We are more inclusive of people who differ from us and the church is open to the whole human family.
In Ireland we have more peace now than we had, but maybe not more justice, especially for our migrant people. These are some fruits. We miss out on some issues – the value of faith and community is low and sometimes in public or political life we go for the temporary and the illusory and the dramatic. The gap between rich and poor is wider than ever. We have had bad experiences of greed and financial abuse, even in the charities sector. Our care of the elderly leaves much to be demanded.
Looking at the gospel vision, we can ask how the vineyard is nourished. We find that the cornerstone of the Christian way of life is love, and the love is a person in Jesus. He is the one who will invigorate the vine … Some will ignore him, some will fol¬low. All of us are probably a bit in between. God sent his own Son into the vineyard of human life, not because life is perfect, but because love is. Jesus comes among us because we need him.
Imagine a situation where people try to do well
in underdeveloped countries and are prevented. Pray for them.
Lord, may your kingdom come, here, there and now, today.
Donal Neary S.J.

St Francis of Assisi
Sunday 4th October marks the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi and also marks the end of the special Jubilee year of St. Francis and the Season of Creation.
St Francis Prayer
While often attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, the Peace Prayer wasn’t written by the saint.
However, it remains a popular traditional prayer.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Tramore’s Ciorcal Cómhra is back!
After a well-earned summer break, the Ciorcal Cómhra in Tramore Library is getting ready to spring back into action on Thursday, 1st October at 7pm and we are looking forward to hearing plenty of Gaeilge again. The Ciorcal is a relaxed and sociable gathering for anyone who enjoys speaking Irish whether you have a cúpla focal or have not spoken the language in years or are already happily chatting away as Gaeilge. There is no formal teaching, no tests and no pressure whatsoever. Instead our group can offer you an opportunity to meet up, participate in a chat and enjoy hearing Irish spoken in good company. Over the past years, the Ciorcal has welcomed a lovely mix of people, with plenty of stories and laughter and good humour to share. It’s a great place to rediscover words you thought you had forgotten, pick up new expressions and build confidence by joining in. If you’ve been thinking about giving your Irish a new lease of life, October is the perfect time to start. Come along, pull up a chair and see what the Ciorcal is all about. New faces are always very welcome and you certainly don’t need to be fluent to take part. Bígí linn!
AKARAPET SCHOOL PROJECT-EAST KENYA
Following the generous support of Tramore parishioners for the Bee Project, Fr Tom Hogan is coordinating a new project this September for Akarapet School, where two classrooms are under construction.
The school currently has 34 pupils, with another 34 due to start in January. The aim is to raise €3,000 to provide 23 locally made desks, permanent water storage, water for the building work, and help complete and equip the classrooms.
For anyone who would like to support the project, a contribution of €20 is suggested, with all contributions gratefully received.
