Communions & Confirmations

Holy Cross Parish of

August 2021

Dear 6th Class Students & Parents,

Greetings and best wishes to you all. I hope you are all keeping safe and well in these difficult times Here in Holy Cross Parish, we are all eagerly looking forward to our celebrations of First Holy Communion and Confirmation, which are fast approaching.

As certain restrictions with regard to physical distancing will likely be still in place, it will only be possible to admit the children themselves, their sponsor, and two other adults into the church on the day. Each class will have its own ceremony. The liturgy will not be structured around the Mass
but will instead consist of a slightly shorter ceremony, focusing on the Rite of Confirmation itself, with familiar hymns, prayers and readings. The children are to wear the school uniform of their new secondary school.

Each class will have a scheduled rehearsal during the week of the Confirmation ceremony. It is essential that each student attend their rehearsal evening (see next page). The ceremony for Gaelscoil Philib Barún will be celebrated as Gaeilge, as originally planned.

Some classes have already received their white ‘Confirmation Cards’, which include their names, the names of parents and sponsors, and their new Confirmation name. If you have these already, please hold on to them for September. If you do not have a Confirmation Card, they will be distributed on the evening of the rehearsal. These will need to be presented on the day of Confirmation.

In the meantime, to help prepare your child for Confirmation, I would encourage you to read the attached 14-page booklet with your child and to discuss the sacrament with them. Also available as a resource is a little orange-coloured book called ‘Youcat Confirmation Book’ which is a helpful manual in preparing children for Confirmation. You can find it online, or we can order it in our parish office for you (it costs €11.50). We look forward to welcoming all our children for Confirmation in September, and we wish to thank our schools and teachers once again for the invaluable help they provide to both parents and parish in forming our children in the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Yours sincerely,

Mgr. Nicholas O’Mahony PP.
