In the Diocesan changes announced during the week we learned of the transfer of Fr. Michael Toomey from Tramore to be a curate in Saint Peter & Paul’s parish in Clonmel. Fr. Toomey has served in this parish since his ordination six years ago. He very nearly did not make it past the first year when he was involved in an accident with a motor car in Clonmel. Since then his progress has been excellent and Tramore has been blessed with his work among us. For a while we found it hard to fathom his cockney accent, but gradually he has acquired a bit of an Irish blas. Fr. Michael did exceptional work in the schools in the parish. He organized preparation liturgies for the sacraments of First Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. His celebration of these liturgies was most prayerful and helpful for the children and parents. We wish him every blessing and good wishes in his new ministry
We have been informed by Bishop Cullinan that Fr. Shane O’Neill, who is a native of Knockanore, will replace Fr. Toomey. Fr. Shane was ordained on July 19th and comes fresh from college. Before entering St. Patrick’s College Maynooth he attended University College Cork where he obtained a M.A. in Irish. During his training for the priesthood he spent his pastoral year with us here in Tramore so he will quickly find his way around. We pray the Lord that that Fr. Shane’s ministry in Tramore will be a fruitful one.
